Get Your Ducts in a Row

5/25/2018 (Permalink)

Removing a vent cover allows you to take a look at your duct system.

It can be very difficult to clean a duct system, so we do recommend leaving that to the professionals here at SERVPRO of Southwest Brooklyn.  Fortunately, there are some steps you can take to see if the system needs to be cleaned.  By removing the vent covers you can get a glimpse into the system. Any signs of dirt or debris means the air you are breathing isn’t as clean as it could be. You can also check the air filters for dust and dirt. If either of these checks results in questionable cleanliness, we are here to help. While checking the condition or your air conditioner, you should also look at your heater. A dirty heat exchanger surface means the system is not running at maximum efficiency.

With summer getting closer and closer, make sure your AC is ready to help you beat the heat. The coils of your AC need to be unhindered to give you the best results. Shine a flashlight onto the coils to see if the light projects on the other side. The coil fins should be evenly spaced and free of any damage, like dents or nicks.  If you do see accumulated dirt or dust your AC will be less efficient.  We are here to help get your AC in tip-top shape, so don’t sweat it!

Below we will list a quick introduction to the work that goes into cleaning your ducts:

The first thing a SERVPRO of Southwest Brooklyn professional will do is check the AC filters. Dirty filters mean the air you are breathing is dirty too! Cleaning or, if needed, replacing your filter can make the air you breathe cleaner and ensure the air is flowing unobstructed.

Once the filter is dealt with, we move to the condenser coils. Clean condenser coils will maximize your AC’s energy efficiency so not only will your room be cooler, it will cost you less! Your SERVPRO of Southwest Brooklyn service person will also check the coolant lines to ensure you are receiving the coolest air possible.

All cleaned up and ready to go, the last step is to turn the AC on. Once running, we can make sure there is no need for additional work.  Needless to say, if there is more work to be done we are ready to do that too!
